Caledonian Sleeper Delay Repay: rates, claim form and time limit

Caledonian Sleeper pays Delay Repay from 30 minutes late: half the fare at 30 to 59 minutes, the full fare from 60. If you booked direct, it raises the claim, but you must confirm it within 28 days.

What Caledonian Sleeper pays

Every tier is a percentage of the single fare for the delayed direction. If you bought a return, the single fare is half what you paid, which is how every UK operator calculates it. The one exception is two hours or more: on a return ticket, Caledonian Sleeper pays back the whole return fare, not half of it. On a single, the top rate is the whole single fare.

Worth repeating: Caledonian Sleeper starts at 30 minutes, not 15. A 25-minute delay pays nothing here even though it would pay on most of the network.

Will they claim for you?

Partly, and the wording matters. The scheme covers tickets booked directly through sleeper.scot or the Guest Service Centre.

A claim is raised for you within a day, then you get an email to confirm. You have to click that link within 28 days or you lose the money entirely, which is a harder edge than most operators apply. Tickets booked through a third party stay manual.

Across the network only c2c pays with no action at all. Everywhere else, "automatic" means the operator fills the form in and waits for you to press the button.

How to claim from Caledonian Sleeper

  1. Open the Caledonian Sleeper claim form
  2. Have your booking reference from the confirmation email to hand
  3. Give the date, the departure and arrival stations, and the scheduled time
  4. Say how late you arrived, not how late you departed. The scheme scores arrival
  5. Attach a photo of the ticket or your e-ticket screenshot
  6. Submit within 28 days of travelling
  7. Expect a response within about 20 working days
  8. If it is refused and you think that is wrong, the Rail Ombudsman is free

My Caledonian Sleeper was 20 minutes late. Can I claim?
No. Caledonian Sleeper pays Delay Repay from 30 minutes late, not 15. It measures the delay at your destination, comparing your arrival with the scheduled arrival time, not how late you set off.
My Caledonian Sleeper return was delayed two hours. What do I get back?
The Guest Experience Charter says a delay of 120 minutes or more with a National Rail return ticket pays a full refund of the fare and Room Supplement, and a Caledonian Sleeper-only ticket gets the single fare back in full. Tickets bought direct are sold as single fares, so a return booked with Caledonian Sleeper is paid for the affected part of the journey only.
Does Caledonian Sleeper pay Delay Repay automatically?
If you booked on sleeper.scot or through the Guest Service Centre, it starts the claim within 24 hours and emails you to confirm the journey. You must click that link within 28 days or you are not eligible. Third-party bookings need the Delay Repay form, and Caledonian Sleeper cannot compensate if you booked with American Express.
How much does Caledonian Sleeper pay?
A percentage of your single fare: 50% from 30 minutes, 100% from 60 minutes. On a return, the single fare is treated as half what you paid, except at 120 minutes or more, when a return ticket gets the whole return fare back.
How long do I have to claim from Caledonian Sleeper?
